62 pennies formed in early 2002, but the current line-up has only been for the past 2 and a half years, with Steve taking over from Nick, their original guitarist. It's difficult to categorize 62pennies' music into one particular genre, as they have been linked to a number of different styles, predominantly alternative, hardcore, pop punk... Together, they use a wide variety of influences to create unique, hard-edged, melodic music that is appreciated by fans of diverse, alternative styles. But the only sure fire way to get an idea for this band, their attitude and talent, is to come along to one of the future gigs (as outlined in the 'upcoming shows' section) and see them for yourself... Regular gig haunts are Edwards No.8 and The Flapper & Firkin in Birmingham, but 'The Pennies' have also played at The Royal George, The Old Railway, Scruffy Murphy's, The Sanctuary, The Boiler Room, Northern Territory in Hinckley, have indulged in a short tour down south (Plymouth, Teignmouth, Torquay) and have played more non-Birmingham gigs including Wakefield and Southend-On-Sea. They are currently promoting the recent release of their new 6-track mini-album, "Passion, Pain and Progress", courtesy of Secret Lab Productions, featuring the awesome tracks 'A Conflict in Grey' and 'Bad Religion' (as played at Cult Club & Subculture!) among others, and are organising a summer tour not only around The Midlands but potentially many more UK venues.
