Psychemodo

Psychemodo are a rock band from Birmingham, England who LOVE music. All sorts of music… that’s what makes them different. They have such a joyful disregard for genre that their guitar-based rock can go from punk to funk to indie in a single song. A full live set can steer the audience through metal, glam, pop and new wave as well.

As if that’s not enough, Stuart Stevens (guitarist) is currently in the process of completing a major work for orchestra, choir and rock band, which is due to be premiered by Psychemodo, Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra, and the choir “Notorious” in Birmingham this September. The Requiem for New York is about 9/11 and the events since. The band are planning a short tour of Manhattan for this June, and are working towards getting the “Requiem” performed in New York later this year.

Psychemodo began releasing their music on the internet in September 2005. Their 3 track “Shallow Demo 2005” won rave reviews, and in March 2006 alone their website received visitors from more than 50 countries. They are collaborating with award-winning Indian filmmaker Praveen Chrispugg to produce a world-class video for “She’s So Clean”, their song-gift to WaterAid, working with major film industry figures like Pinewood Studios, and aiming for screenings at music festivals and TV. Two other videos of the band made with Praveen are airing on SSTV, India’s mtv-type channel.

With a live set fit to make your teeth tingle, your heart pound, your head bang, and your face ache from grinning, Psychemodo should be available on prescription to anyone in the world who is in need of a break from the run-of the-mill.

LIVE:
“songs which are real stories & proper compositions rather than intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-guitar-solo-on-the-fadeout… in short, a band who should be going places!” (Birmingham Alive!)

“Psychemodo a four-piece plus newly added string section, play pop, rock, blues/jazz, funk with all of their songs. Not only do they blend these styles within the different tracks but they also do it within the songs themselves making strong, poignant, moody tracks into danceable tunes… A stunning performance with fun and excitement, a great rapport with the audience that was extremely appreciative, there was not a flat spot to Psychemodo’s set. Real quality, excellent band.” (Xposed magazine)

SHALLOW DEMO 2005:
“An overall very varied piece – this record explores the three corners of Psychemodo; the punky and menacing demons, the thoughtful indie fairies and the experimental rocking pixies... we’re trying to emphasize the point that this band can adapt to anything and make it an iconic gem… a true little masterpiece…overall, an amazing piece of distinct and versatile music by one of the brightest stars on the Birmingham scene.” (Primechord Fanzine)

“Veering wildly from punk to new wave to glam to ska and back again, this is an intense, inspired sound that delivers a welcome shot of adrenaline… Mental but marvellous… it’s loony stuff; but hugely entertaining, dynamic and bursting with all the energy of a temperamental Rottweiler.” (www.Overplay.com)

If Psychemodo can record, mix and master this in their bedroom studio, then the big boys should watch out!”

“…so danceable that, if you have a bouncy sofa like me, you`ll probably find yourself testing the limits of the springs… Depending on your mood when you listen to this, you could end up dancing, air-guitaring, lap-drumming or grabbing that snooker cue in order to put in a great vocal performance... What a fantastic triplet of songs that really hit the mark the first time you hear them. And the second time, third time... Probably the best record we’ve received from the Midlands.” (rating 9/10) (www.the-mag.me.uk)

SHE’S SO CLEAN – single for WaterAid, 2007:
"Psychemodo are habitual writers of immersing pop songs with sparkling production and a Post-Office sized queue of hooks. They aren't about to kick the habit either, as "She's So Clean" is very much along these lines. The verse is an ambient "Harvest for The World" with eerie guitars and subdued percussion, but the main bulk of the song is a bouncy jelly of energy, along the lines of T-Rex crossed with Headswim and Coldplay, with big melodies and guitars that could pull fish out of water… This track has a slice of genuine chart potential, pop enough to appeal to a wide audience and substantial enough for those of us with more refined taste." (rating 9/10) (www.the-mag.me.uk)

"a simple hook-laden and heartfelt song, with some delightful harmonies and a real basic earthy rhythm that you can't help but fall for.” (www.russellsreviews.com)
