Bushpig

Bushpig

..in the beginning
The seeds of Bushpig were sown in a punk band called 'incision', Where founder members Pete Howells (vocals) and Sharon Griffin (drums) Met. After 4 years and around 30 members it ground to a resounding halt, a relief some might say!
Pete had previously been in Telford hardcore punk outfit 'Hatework' and Sharon had once supported 'Sigue Sigue Sputnik' in a band called 'Sonic State', the singer of which has now joined Sputnik on keyboards.
Next up was Gavin Herbert (guitar), who had previously been in Telford rock outfit 'Stuntface'. Gav brought with him a distinctive sound and the ability to invent original riffs using unusual dischords and patterns, which when added to Pete’s powerful and sometimes controversial lyrics have created some truly awesome rock songs.
The most recent addition to the line up is bassist Rob Warburton who Joined in 2004 from rock band “Skank” and has wreaked subsonic havoc ever since!!
.. influences
Although there was a huge diversity in musical backgrounds and influences there were a certain few bands that all members were in to, The Stranglers, The Damned and The Foo Fighters to name but three. The other common factor was a love of live music and the desire to get up there and do it themselves.
They soon developed their own style which can only be described as somewhere between rock and punk with a distinct guitar sound, somewhat akin to 'Queens of The Stone Age'. The vocal attitude was very punk with a similarity to the 'Damned' or early 'Stranglers',
..early gigs & future plans
In March 2002 'Bushpig' took to the stage for the first time at The Albert in Shrewsbury supporting 'The Poet Dogs'.
As well as many local shows Bushpig have played various gigs around the country including the punk's picnic at the 'Wychwood' (Manchester) and legendary punk venue 'The Hope and Anchor' in Islington (London).
Bushpig have supported the likes of cult band 'The UK Subs', 'GBH' and probably the UK's top live punk act 'GoldBlade', fronted by the enigmatic and much respected John Robb.
However the bands favorite gig to date was supporting legendary Irish punksters “The Undertones” at Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun hall in sept 2004.
2005 is set to be a promising year for Bushpig, with a new E.P. on the way, some great gigs planned and media interest, These are indeed exiting times!
