Between fire and ice, at the northern edge of Europe, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has been making vibrations – and you’ll hear why when it makes its first visit to Birmingham this century. Naturally, under chief conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier, there’s a French accent: and pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is unbeatable in Ravel’s volcanic concerto. But there are powerful Nordic sounds from Anna Thorvaldsdottir, too – plus the elemental power and brooding melodies of Sibelius’s evergreen First Symphony.
Between fire and ice, at the northern edge of Europe, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has been making vibrations around the globe!
