Living Legend Brian Wilson Performing Pet Sounds at Digbeth Arena in August!

16 April 2018

Brian Wilson was a co-founder of the legendary Beach Boys, who produced some of the most successful American pop music characterised by rich, close harmony vocals which came to be known as the 'surf sound'.

Despite the hits, he is perhaps better respected for later work, and in particular the 1966 album 'Pet Sounds', which regularly appears in polls as one of the greatest records of all time. Its mixture of melodic beauty and pioneering experimentation was taken even further on his next planned release, the near legendary 'Smile'. Scrapped in the late sixties, this album was finally released in 2004.

The subsequent critical and popular acclaim it received was a true vindication of his original vision, and Brian's live performances of both 'Smile' and 'Pet Sounds' have been greeted with an equally rapturous reception.

Mr Brian Wilson

BOB DYLAN on Brian Wilson:

"Jesus, that ear. He should donate it to the Smithsonian. The records I used to listen to and still love, you can't make a record that sounds that way. Brian Wilson, he made all his records with four tracks, but you couldn't make his records if you had a hundred tracks today..."

PAUL MCCARTNEY on Brian Wilson:

"I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard 'Pet Sounds.' I love the orchestra, the arrangements – it may be going overboard to say it's the classic of the century – but to me, it certainly is a total, classic record that is unbeatable in many ways. I've often played Pet Sounds and cried."

NEIL YOUNG on Brian Wilson:

"He's like Mozart or Chopin or Beethoven or something. This music will live forever. It's going to be these melodies and these words, and it's just fantastic. I can't describe it. There's very few writers I feel the emotional and spiritual contact with that I feel with Brian."
